Network Software License Servers
A network software license server may be located in the LAN, in the WAN, or operated in the cloud. Usually, the license server is run directly by end users, but it is possible for software publishers to operate it themselves as well.
Network license servers can also be operated in virtual environments. A virtual machine implemented as a network license server allocates and monitors the available licenses in the network. A license server can also be used in heterogeneous networks containing real machines with diverse operating systems and virtual environments and terminal servers.
